In-person and virtual appointments
Dr. Nicola Gray received her B.S. in biology from Harvard University and completed medical school at The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She was awarded a two year Howard Hughes Fellowship to pursue research into a Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcus (PANDAS) subtype of anorexia nervosa. Dr. Gray then completed her psychiatry residency at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC) in Pittsburgh, PA.
During her residency she was awarded a prestigious Laughin Fellowship to the American College of Psychiatry. She also authored and co-authored several peer reviewed articles, including a landmark study of antidepressants during pregnancy. She went on to complete a fellowship in Women’s Mental Health at the same academic center. She was recruited as an assistant professor of Psychiatry at WPIC. Her position involved running an outpatient clinic, teaching and supervising both residents and medical students and mentoring fellows. Unfortunately, budget cuts forced the clinic to close. She then ran a successful private practice in Pittsburgh for almost 3 years.
She recently relocated to North Carolina from Pennsylvania to take a position as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at East Carolina University. Her responsibilities there included serving as an attending psychiatrist on a 54 bed inpatient unit and supervising fellows, residents and medical students.
Since then, she has returned to Pennsylvania and, after serving as an assistant professor of psychiatry at Milton S. Hershey Penn State Medical Center, she has decided to return to private practice so that she can dedicate more of her time to direct patient care.
